Ancajas on Pacquiao comparison: There's only one Sir Manny
MAGALLANES, Cavite -- World junior bantamweight king Jerwin Ancajas knows he has to come up with nothing but his best when he makes his US debut on February 3.
Ancajas has already fought in various locations such as Macau, Brisbane and Belfast, but it is in the US where fighters turn into superstars.
"Nakapaimportante ng labang ito, kasi malaki ang following ng boxing sa US," Ancajas said shortly before plunging into training on Saturday.
"Sabi ni coach, ito na ang pagkakataon natin. Kailangan maganda ang performance dahil iba ang taste ng mga Amerikano sa boxing."
Ancajas has been training for weeks at coach Joven Jimenez's Survival Camp in a secluded town in Magallanes, Cavite for his title defense against Mexico's Israel "Jiga" Gonzalez.
The fight, the first in his 3-fight contract with Top Rank Inc., will take place at American Bank Center, Corpus Christi, Texas.
Although Gonzalez only has 8 stoppage victories in 21 wins, the camp of Ancajas is wary of the "mysterious" Mexican fighter.
