Answer:

Fixed charge = ₹50, rate per km = ₹16

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the fixed charge be ₹f and the rate per km be ₹r.

Now we can frame two linear equations in two variables and solve for r and f:

For the 80 km fare:

f + 80d = 1330         (i)

For the 90 km fare:

f + 90d = 1490         (ii)

Subtract (i) from (ii):

10d = 160

d = 16

Substituting the value of d in (i):

f + 1280 = 1330 ⇒ f = 50

Therefore the fixed charge is ₹50 and the rate per km is 16.

Question :-

  • Taxi charges in a city consist of fixed charges and the remaining depending upon the distance travelled in kilometres. If a person travels 80 km, he pays ₹ 1330, and for travelling 90 km, he pays ₹ 1490. Find the fixed charges and the rate per kilometre.

Solution :-

Let the fixed charges be ₹ x and the other charges be ₹ y per km.

Then, x + 80y = 1330. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀...(i)

And, x + 90y = 1490. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ …(ii)

On subtracting (i) from (ii), we get

10y = 160

y = 160/10

y = 16.

Putting y = 16 in (i), we get

x + (80×16) = 1330

x = 1330 - 1280

x = 50

∴ fixed charges = ₹ 50

And the rate per km = ₹ 16 per km
