let \: the \: fraction \: be \:  \frac{x - 2}{x}

(Since we took denominator as x , the numerator becomes x-2 as per the question)

Given :

 \frac{x - 2}{x + 1}  =  \frac{1}{2 }  \\  \\ cross \: multiply \\  \\ 2x - 4 = x + 1 \\ x = 5

Therefore the fraction is

 \frac{3}{5}

Hope this helps

Given question:-

The numerator of a fraction is 2 less than the denominator. If one is added to

its denominator, it becomes 1/2

To Find:-

find the fraction.

Hence:-

Let y be the denominator so, y - 2 will be the numerator.

So,

 \frac{y- 2}{y + 2}  =  \frac{1}{2}

Now , Cross Multiply

= y + 3 = 2y

= 2y - y = 3

= y = 3

= y + 2 = 3 + 2 = 5

Hence, 3 / 5 is the fraction.
