Given :  The roof of a building is 16m high

A rope is tied from the roof to a peg  on the ground 12m away from the wall of the building

To Find : What is the length of  the rope?

Solution:

Height ( vertical Distance ) = 16 m

Horizontal Distance = 12  m

Rope Length = d   m

Applying Pythagoras theorem :

d²  = 16² + 12²

=> d²   = 256 + 144

=> d² = 400

=> d = 20

length of  the rope  = 20 m
