If a steel is heated about 723 degree centigrade then a material termed Austenite is formed.

Austenite is a term used for iron with a face-centred-cubic (fcc) crystal structure, and this phase arises in the Fe–C system at above the eutectoid temperature of 723 °C.

Austenite which is also recognized as gamma-stage iron or γ-Fe, is a metal, non-magnetic allotrope of iron or a solid resolution of iron, with an alloying element.
