70% passed, so, 30% failed

No. of students who failed = (30/100)×180 = 54

The number of failed candidates is 54

Solution:

Given that,

Total candidates applied = 200

Candidates appeared in exam = 180

70 per cent passed

Which means,

passed candidates = 70 % of 180

passed\ candidates = \frac{70}{100} \times 180\\\\passed\ candidates = 126

Therefore,

Failed candidates = Candidates appeared in exam - passed candidates

Failed candidates = 180 - 126

Failed candidates = 54

Thus number of failed candidates is 54
