Given info : 200 g of water are at 25°C. The water is heated to 75 °C by burning 2 g of ethanol.

To find : The amount of energy transferred to the water is ...

solution : mass of water, m = 200g

initial temperature, T_i = 25°C

final temperature, T_f = 75°C

a/c to question,

The water is heated to 75°C by burning 2g of ethanol.

⇒heat transferred by Ethanol = mS∆T

= 200g × 4.18 j/g/°C × (75°C - 25°C )

= 200 × 4.18 × 50 j

= 10000 × 4.18 j

= 41800 j

= 41.8 × 10³ j

= 41.8 kJ

Therefore the amount of energy transferred by Ethanol to the water is 41.8 kJ.
