Karnataka is a state in South-West India. It was formed on 1st November 1956, with the passage of the States Reorganization Act. It was initially known as the state of Mysore, but in 1973, it was renamed Karnataka is surrounded by Maharashtra to the North -West and Goa to the West. Bangalore is the capital city of Karnataka. Gersoppa are the magnificent waterfalls in the state. They are formed by the river Sharavati.The natural landscape of Karnataka adds beauty to the tourist spots. Karnataka is a captivating land rich in scenic beauty, flora and fauna. It is called the city of Gardens because of its lush green patches and colourful blossoms all over the state. Forests in Karnataka have 25% of elephants and 10% of tiger population of India. The Indian elephant is recognized as the state animal. Lotus and sandalwood are observed as the state flower and tree. Karnataka has 25 wildlife sanctuaries of
which seven are bird sanctuaries.
