Given : A room measures 6 m by 5 m by 4 m.

a litre of paint is used to cover 18 m² in 1 coat.

The windows and doors occupy 10% of the wall area.

To Find :  the paint required in litres, to paint the walls with

2 coats of paint

Solution:

room measures 6 m by 5 m by 4 m.

=> Wall area = 2(6 + 5) * 4

=> Wall area = 8 * 11

=> Wall area = 88 m²

windows and doors occupy 10% of the wall area. = (10/100)88

= 8.8  m²

Area  to be painted  =   88 - 8.8

= 79.2 m²

paint the walls with 2 coats of paint  = 2 * 79.2

= 158.4 m²

18  m² can be painted       in 1 Litre

1 m² can be painted       in 1/18  Litre

158.4 m² can be painted   in 158.4/18  Litre

= 8.8

8.8 litre paint is required
