Answer:

The single discount is equivalent to 100 - 68.4 = 31.6%

Given:

A shopkeeper gave a series of discount of 20%, 10% and 5% on a special product.

To find:

The single discount equivalent to these series of discount

Solution:

Let the cost price be Rs. 100

20 % discount on CP = 80% of 100 = Rs.80

10 % discount on the new CP = 90 % of 80 =Rs.72

5 % discount on the new CP = 95 %  of 72 = Rs.68.4

The single discount is equivalent to 100 - 68.4 = 31.6%

Result:

The single discount is equivalent to 100 - 68.4 = 31.6%
