21. Mr. Mittal purchased two steel factories, one in India and other one in Malaysia for total Rs. 72 crores. Later
he sold the Indian factory at 16% profit and Malasian factory at 24% profit. Thus he gained a total profit
19%. The selling price of Indian factory is :

Then, x + y = 72 -----(1)

Later Mr Mittal sold Indian factory at 16% profit the selling price of the factory = x + 0.16x

= 1.16x

He sold Malaysian factory at 24% profit then the selling price of the factory

= y + 0.24y

= 1.24y

If he gained 19% profit in total then the equation will be

1.16x + 1.24y = (x + y) + 0.19(x + y)

1.16x + 1.24y = 1.19(x + y)

1.24y - 1.19y = 1.19x - 1.16x

0.05y = 0.03x

y = \frac{3}{5}x-------(2)

From equation (1) and (2),

x+\frac{3}{5}x=72

\frac{8x}{5}=72

x = 45

Now selling price of Indian factory = 1.16×45 = 52.2 crore

Therefore, cost of Indian factory is 52.2 crores. Option (b) will be the answer.
