21. Ram with his family went to a picnic spot near a pond. He saw some
Jelly like mass floating on the sides of the pond. He asked about this to
his father. His father explained him that these are frog's egg and are
millions in number. Ram wondered if all of them get hatched, what will
happen to other aquatic animals?

a) The type of fertilization that is shown by a frog is referred to as external fertilization.

b) As frogs lay eggs outside of their body, there are many reasons that the eggs might be destroyed. Being eaten by a prey, being spoiled by waves, not being able to develop etc are reasons that lead to the destruction of the eggs. Hence, frogs lay eggs in large amounts so that some of them could be able to hatch as there are chances of many to be destroyed.

c) Ram's concern about hatching of too many eggs at a time is not correct because most of the eggs are eaten by the predators, most of them do not develop and hence the number is balanced as most of the eggs are destroyed.
