Answer:

The correct answer is Option D

Explanation:

  • The advantage of the Rise and fall method is that it gives more accuracy to the reading. A complete check is done for all the readings. This method is quite complicated and is not easy to use. Imagination or visualization is required for the nature of the ground. It is used where the change points are more and the reduced level takes more time.
  • Here , instead of calculating the height of the instrument, we calculate the difference in staff readings at the two stations. The two stations where staff readings are taken are such that we know the RL of the ground of one station and we want to find the RL of the other.
  • A level is set at such a position from where max. no of the stations can be visible. Now, the staff is placed at the station whose RL is known and the reading is observed say R1. The staff is then transferred to a station whose RL is to be determined and the reading is observed say R2.
  • Now, if R1 > R2, it means the ground at the former station is lower than the ground at the latter station. So, there is a rise in the ground surface
  • Similarly, if R2 > R1, the ground at the latter station is deeper / lower than the ground at the former station. So there is a fall on ground surface
