Active respiration does not include thorax.
The function of following parts are :-
- Trachea
- It is a U shaped tube which connects the human voice box (larynx) with lungs.
- It is also known as air pipe. It is a key part of the respiratory system.
- When we breathe, air travels through Trachea from nose to lungs.
2. Diaphragm
- It is a dome shaped muscle present below the lungs.
- It continually contracts and flattens when we breathe in and out.
3. Thorax
- It is the area of the body between the neck and abdomen.
- It consists of important organs like heart, lungs and liver.
- It is supported by ribs and spine.
4. Intercostal Muscles
- These are present within the rib cage in three layers.
- These muscles assist ribs and chest cavity to come back to their original position during exhalation.
- These muscles combine to fill gaps within ribs and assist the respiratory system to work properly.
Hence, we can say that active respiration does not include thorax.
