22. An object is placed 18cm front of a mirror. If the image is formed at 4cm to the right

of the mirror. Calculate its focal length. Is the mirror convex or concave? What is the

nature of the image? What is the radius of curvature of the mirror

Answer:

f = 5.14cm , convex mirror , r = 10.28, erect, small, dimnished image

Explanation:

object distance (u) = - 18cm

image distance (v) = 4cm

focal length =>  1/f = 1/v + 1/u

                    => 1/f = 1/4 + (-1/18)

                             = 7/36

                      f = 36/7 = 5.14 cm

radius of curvature of mirror = 2f = 10.28 cm

convex mirror .. because focal length is +ve..

magnification (m) = - v/u = - 4/-18 = 2/9

     height of the image is small , erect and dimnished.

..hope it helps...
