ANSWER:
Reforestation is a natural process to replant trees in an otherwise deforested area, reforestation although man-made helps in increasing the life support of the forest depleted area back to its previous life, the air quality increases, pollution and dust is reduced, increase in oxygen, decreasing in greenhouse gases.
Things that have to be kept in mind while selecting plants for reforestation are:
- Before, reforestation the surrounding area has lost its soil nutrients, it can be due to various reason like soil erosion, deforestation , excessive grazing, hence trees that hold and impart nutrients to soil like nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus should be included first to increase soil quality. For Example: Alder, Redbud etc.
- Now to increase air quality, trees that intake higher amount of carbon should be included next has they exhale higher oxygen concentration in the atmosphere clearing the area air and improving the surrounding area. For Example: Peepal, Banyan.
