X= -2 is a root of given polynomial,

then, substituting the value of x = - 2 in P(X)

we \: have \: \\ p(x) = 3 {x}^{2} - kx \\ p( - 2) = 3 \times 4 + 2k \\ 12 + 2k = 0 = > k = \frac{ - 12}{2} = - 6
