oxides of metals which have both acidic as well as basic behaviour are called amphoteric oxides. eg:Al2O3 , ZnO ,etc....

Those metal oxides which show basic as well as acidic behaviour are known as amphoteric oxides. Amphoteric oxides react with both acids as well as bases to form salts and water. The two examples of amphoteric oxides are aluminium oxide (Al,O3) and zinc oxide (ZnO).
