Solution:

Since 224 hours are required to complete a project and 4 men are employed for this project,

each man has to work for 224/4 = 56 hours.

i)

It is given that the hourly rate of each man is $7.50 and none of the 4 men work overtime, so each man would be paid ($7.50/hour)*(56 hours) = $420

ii)

It is given that for each man, the normal working hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break, so on a single day each man normally works for 8 hours. The hourly rate of each man for these 8 hours is $7.50.

Overtime rate for each man = 1.5 times their normal hourly rate

                                               = 1.5 * ($7.50)

                                               = $11.25/hour

Since the project requires 224 hours to complete and is to be completed in 4 days, each day the 4 men has to work for a total of (224/4) = 56 hours. So, in order to complete the project in 4 days, each man has to work for (56/4) = 14 hours on a daily basis for 4 days.

Since each man has to work for 14 hours/day, it will require 8 hours of normal working hours and 6 hours of overtime.

So, each man has to be paid:                                                                             (($7.50/hour)*(8 hours) + ($11.25/hour)*(6 hours))/day

= ($60 + $67.50)/day

= $127.5/day

So, for 4 days each man would be paid ($127.5/day)*(4 days) = $510
