23.a) A ray of light falls normally on a face of a glass slab. What are the values of angle of
incidence and angle of refraction?
b) State the laws of refraction.

Answer:

a) angle of incidence and angle of refraction will be zero as light is falling normally.

b) i. incident ray, refracted ray and the normal lies on the same plane.

ii. sin i / sin r = constant

c) in optically denser medium the angle of refraction will be less as light ray will bend towards the normal. so medium 1 will be optically denser as angle is 20 than medium 2 where angle is 30.

The relation between the angle of incidenceand the angle of refraction is known as Snell's Law. Since the light travels with different speed in different media, the direction of the ray of light will change when it crosses the boundary between the two media.
