Option (c) different volumes of O2 and O3

Equal masses of oxygen and ozone will have different numbers of moles

The question should have further two more options (c) and (d) different volumes of gram moles and the same volume of gram atoms respectively.

Explanation:

In oxygen -

       In 1 mole of O2  = 32g

       X moles of O2 = 1g

       1 x 1/32 = 0.0312 moles = n1  ---------------------(1)

       1 mole of O3  = 48g

       Y moles of O3 = 1g

       1 x 1/48 = 0.0208 moles = n2  ---------------------(2)

  • So numbers of moles are different.
  • Oxygen and ozone occupies different volumes under the same conditions of temperature and pressure of condition.
  • We know that  PV = n RT   gas equation )--------------------(3)
  • Then  V = n RT/P where P, V and T are the pressure, volume and temperature.
  • When we calculate volume P, R and T will remain constant.
  • As the number of moles is different hence the volumes of O2 and O3 will be different.
