Heamoglobin plays an important role in respiration.
*. As oxygen can't be transported directly in blood (without help of other molecules) it binds with heamoglobin so that it can easily be transported through the blood.
*. Carbon dioxide can be disolved in the blood plasma directly and thus need not bind with the heamoglobin.
