Given :  Mr. T has a wrong weighing pan. One arm is lengthier than other. 1 kilogram on left balances 8 melons on right, 1 kilogram on right balances 2 melons on left

all melons are equal in weight,

To Find : what is the weight of a single melon.

Solution:

Mr T has a wrong weighing pan

Let say 1 kg  on left balance =  1  +  x  kg  on  right balance

1   kg  on  right balance   = 1  - x    kg   on left balance

1 kilogram on left balances 8 melons

=> 8 melons = 1 + x kg

1 kilogram on right balances 2 melons

=> 2 melons =1 -  x  kg

10 melons = 2 kg

=> 5 melons = 1 kg

=> 1 melons = 1/5 kg = 200 g

weight of a single melon.  = 200 g
