Step-by-step explanation:

Given Rekha and Sonam took some money from their mothers and went to a market. Sonam bought a colouring book for Rs. 135 and Rekha spends Rs. 535 to buy a set of story book. After the shopping, both of them have the same amount of money left. Rekha took twice the  amount of money that Sonam took.

  • Let the money taken by Sonam be m
  • So the money taken by Rekha is 2m
  • According to the question
  • Money left with Sonam will be m – 135
  • Money left with Rekha will be 2m – 535
  • Therefore m – 135 = 2m – 535 (since both will have the same amount of money left)
  •                   535 – 135 = 2m – m
  •                 Or m = 400
  • So 2m = 2 x 400
  •           = 800
  • Therefor the amount of money the girls took from their mother will be Rs 800 and Rs 400
