let the side of the triangle be x, then the other side = X since it is a isosceles triangle, and base = 2x

Perimeter is given as 42 cm.

Equating this we get,

Side+side+side = Perimeter

or, x + x + 2x = 42

or, 4x = 42

or, x = 42/4 = 10.5

therefore the equal side of the triangle = 10.5 cm

and base = 2×10.5 = 21.0 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

  1. let 2 sides be a
  2. 3rd side be a/2

a+a+a/2=42

2a+a/2=42

cross multiply

4a+a=84

5a=42

a=42÷5

a=8.4

2sides =8.4

3rd side = a/2= 4.2
