b) The inner membrane of mitochondria is highly folded, to give rise to small Baskin racket like structures called oxysomes or F1 F0 particles. These help in cellular respiration.

In addition to synthesizing lipids, the smooth endoplasmic reticulum plays an important role in detoxification of chemicals. This detoxification process occurs in the liver, which contains an abundance of smooth endoplasmic reticulum.

The inner membrane folds over many times and creates layered structures called cristae. The folding of the inner membrane increases the surface area inside the organelle. Since many of the chemical reactions happen on the inner membrane, the increased surface area creates more space for reactions to occur.
