Find the rate of rice per kg, before and after

the reduction price.

solution : let the price of rice before reduction is x Rs/kg

after reduction, the price of rice = x × (100 - 15)%

= 17x/20

a/c to question,

amount of rice before reduction + 10 kg = amount of rice after reduction

⇒680/x + 10 = 680/(17x/20)

⇒680/x + 10 = 800/x

⇒10 = 120/x

⇒x = 12

Therefore the price of rice before reduction is 12 Rs/kg

and after reduction = 17x/20 = 12 × 17/20 = 10.2 Rs/kg.
