let the cost of 36 chocolates be x

no. of chocolates (p) 24. 36

cost of the chocolates(q) 840. x

more the chocolate, more the cost, hence p and q vary directly

p/q=24/840=36/x

24*x = 840*36

24x = 30240

x =1260

thus, cost of 36 chocolates is 1260 rupees
