SOLUTION

GIVEN

24 litres of oil cost Rs. 1200

TO DETERMINE

The cost of 18 litres of oil

The type of variation wheather it is direct or inverse variation and also describe the solution.

EVALUATION

Let cost of x litres oil is Rs y

As x increases y will also increase

So x and y are in direct variation

 \sf{y \propto x}

 \sf{ \implies \: y = kx}

Where k is non zero real number

When x = 24 , y = 1200

From Equation (1) we get

 \sf{1200 = 24k}

 \implies \sf{k = 50}

Now when x = 18

 \sf{y = kx = 50 \times 18 = 900}

The cost of 18 litres of oil = Rs 900
