Concept:

A Venn diagram is a popular diagram type for illustrating the logical relationship between sets.

Given:

The Venn diagram is given in the figure.

Find:

a. What does the shaded region in the Venn diagram represent.

b. What does the doted region represent.

c. Represent the region of AUB

Solution:

a. Shaded region in the Venn diagram represents (A∪B) - (A∩B).

The region shaded with lines represents (A∪B) - (A∩B)

This represents the union of sets A and B minus the intersection of sets A and B.

b. The dotted region represents A∩B.

The set of all those elements which belong to both A and B is the intersection of A and B (A∩B).

c. The region of AUB.

A set that contains all the elements of A and B is the union of two sets A and B. (A∪B)

∴ The complete sets A and B shaded will represent A∪B.
