After that you’d pick 2*4 balls when the greens would run out. At this point in time, you’d have 6 reds, 8 greens, 8 blue, 8 yellow and 8 white. So the total number of balls you’d have to pick to guarantee 9 balls of one color is 6*5 + 2*4 + 1 = 39.
