In the formation of a solution heat is either absorbed or evolved and homogenous material is produced, still a solution is not a compound as the differentiation can't be done only on the basis of involvement of energy in this case.
It cannot be considered as a compound because
- Its components can be separated by physical means easily.But compounds are not separated by physical means.
- The solution will have the properties of the solute as well as the solvent.So it means it will not have a new set of properties but will retain the properties of its constituents which is a major property of mixture.
- It will have properties different from the properties of a compound as it must have got not a of fixed proportion of constituents.
