Convex lens :

Explanation:

  • The convex lens converges the incident rays towards the principal axis which is comparatively thick across the middle and thin at the lower and upper edges.
  • The edges are curved outward alternately inward.

a)

  • When convex lenses are used for observation, the result will be magnified. We tend to see a magnified image of the object.

b)

  • i) The nature of the image observed by using a convex lens is virtual.
  • ii) Refer to the attachment.
  • iii) Another name that was given to the lens will be the converging lens or magnifying lens.

c)

  • iii) When a convex lens is replaced by a concave lens, the formed image will be virtual as well as diminished.
