It is recognised that biodiversity needs to be protected in the wake of the increasing urbanisation and industrialisation of the country. Biodiversity is the variety of plant and animal life in a particular habitat. A survey of biodiversity at XYZ College revealed that the efforts of the college authorities to maintain a satisfactory level of biodiversity on the campus have paid off.
The college campus boasts approximately 35 varieties of full-grown trees that have been maintained and watered regularly. In addition, shrubs and thickets line the outdoor pathways and are abuzz with insect life. The trees are home to approximately 7 varieties of birds, including two non-native species. Animal life is preserved and cared for well on the campus. 9 dogs and 2 cats have found permanent residence within the campus, and are loved and cared for by the authorities as well as the college students.
However, there is still some scope for improvement. The college's recent decision to cut a few trees and construct a new auditorium there is not in the best interest of the non-human life in the college. Instead, steps can be taken to renovate and expand the old auditorium.
In all, the biodiversity status in the college campus can be given an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10.
