  • depth of well, d=150\ m

∴Load required:

F=m.g

F=250\times 10

F=2500\ N

Now, work done to lift this load:

w=F.d

w=2500\times 150

w=375000\ J

Since this work has to be done in one minute:

∴Power

P=\frac{w}{60}

P=\frac{375000}{60}

P=6250\ W

P=\frac{6250}{746}

P=8.378\ Hp

∴We choose a pump of just next higher power because the work rate won't be achieved by a lower power pump. (4)  9 horse power.​
