Answer:

The missing number is 28.

Solution:

For finding out the missing number, we need to first find out the relation between the numbers.

Given a series of numbers is 256, 125, 60, ......, 12.5

First, let us take the first two numbers, i.e., 256 and 125

The relation is like, (256 - 6)/2 = 250/2 = 125 (=second number)

Next two numbers, i.e., 125 and 60.

(125 - 5)/2 = 120/2 = 60 (= third number)

Hence, from the above two relations, we can clearly see the general relationship between the numbers of the given series.

General relation is that we are subtracting a number from the given number and then dividing it by 2. And the number which is being subtracted from the given number decreases at each step. From the first number, we subtracted 6, from second number we subtracted 5, and therefore from the third number, we will subtract 4.

For the next number, we get

(60 - 4)/2 = 56/2 = 28

now, (28 - 3)/2 = 25/2 = 12.5

Hence, the missing number is 28.
