answer : option (2)x2 - x1

explanation : we have to find heat of transition of graphite into diamond.

i.e., C( graphite ) ⇔C( diamond )

given,

C(graphite) + O2(g) ⇒CO2(g) ; ∆H1 = - x1 cal......(1)

C(diamond) + O2 ⇒CO2(g) ; ∆H2 = -x2 cal ......(2)

reverse the equation (2)

CO2(g) ⇒C(diamond) + O2(g) ; ∆H2' = x2 cal .......(3)

now add equations (1) and (3),

C(graphite) + O2(g) + CO2(g) ⇒CO2(g) + C(diamond) + O2(g) ; ∆H = ∆H1 + ∆H2'

or, C(graphite) ⇒C(diamond) ; ∆H = -x1 + x2 = x2 - x1

hence, option (2) x2 - x1 is correct choice.

Answer:

x2- x1

Explanation:

Cgraphite + 02 -> CO2(g) H=-x1cal

+ Cdiamond + 02 -> CO2(g) H=-x2 cal

= C graphite + Cdiamond +202->2C02 - X 1 + -x2

Cgraphite -> C diamond = x2 - x1
