Tension will act always in opposite direction..
of the pulley...
In case of load it is hanged by two strings to the pulley with tension T in them..
Therefore it will result into 2T in the single string through which load has been hanging..
Now, when the string through B moves x distance upwards, then the string to pulley A will also move x distance upwards each resulting to move 2x distance upwards...
So when we differentiate displacement of pulley A and B we get v and 2v
Therefore the we get the ratio as
Va/Vb = 1/2
