PIL stands for public interest litigation and it refers to the litigation undertaken to secure public interests and clearly demonstrates the availability of justice to socially disadvantaged parties and was introduced by Justice P.N Bhagwati. It is the relaxation on the traditional rule of local standi.

Moreover, a person could easily file a PIL in this advanced and technoloziged 21st century .

Objectives of PIL

1)It is for giving the common people access to the courts to obtain legal redress.

2)It is a very crucial instrument of social change and for the maintenance of the rule of law.

3)It accelerates the balance between law and justice
