Total number of cubes = 27

Find the number of cubes with 1 side painted:

*See attachment (red dot)

1 face = 1 cube (only the centre cube)

6 faces = 6 cubes

Find the number of cubes with 2 sides painted:

*See attachment (green dot)

Top face = 4

Bottom face = 4

4 side faces = 4

Total = 4 + 4 + 4 = 12

Find the difference:

Karishma = only one side painted = 6

Swetha = two sides painted = 12

Difference = 12 - 6 = 6

Answer: 6 cubes
