Answer:

(a) thermal conductivity

Metals- metals are good conductors of heat except lead and mercury.

Non metals- non metals are poor conductors of heat.

(b) boiling point

Metals- metals have high melting and boiling point because the atoms are closely packed and attractive forces in them are very strong.

Non metals- they have low boiling point.

(c)Reaction with oxygen

Metals- metals react with oxygen to form metal oxides

Non metals- they react with oxygen upon heating to form oxides.

(d) Reaction with water

Metals- metal reacts with water to form metal oxide and hydrogen. Metal oxide reacts with water to form metal hydroxide.

Non metals- non metals do not react with water.

(e) Reaction with acids:

Metals- metals placed above hydrogen in the reactivity series react with dilute acids like hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid to evolve hydrogen gas and forming metal salts. Metals placed below hydrogen cannot lose electrons to H+ ions of acids. Hydrogen gas is not liberated.

Non metals - they are oxidised upon heating with concentrated sulphuric acid and concentrated nitric acid.
