28. (i) Consider a conductor of resistance 'R', length 'L', thickness 'd' and resistivity ‘p'.
Now this conductor is cut into four equal parts. What will be the new resistivity of
each of these parts? Why?

(ii) Find the resistance if all of these parts are connected in:
(a) Parallel (b) Series
2.
(iii) Out of the combinations of resistors mentioned above in the previous part, for a
given voltage which combination will consume more power and why?

  1. the new resistivity will be same for all the parts because resistivity is the characteristics of the material used and doesn't depend on dimensions.
  2. Resistance of each part R/4.

when connected in parallel : R/8

when connected in series : R

3. series will consume more power
