Given : A small cone with radius of the the base 3cm is cut from the upper portion of cone whose radius of the circular base is 12cm and height 2cm

To Find :  lateral surface area of the frustum of the cone

Solution:

lateral surface area of the frustum of the cone =  π(R + r)( √(R-r)² + h²)

R = 12 cm

r = 3 cm

h = 2 cm

= π(12 + 2)( √(12-3)² + 2²)

= 14π √9² + 2²

= 14π √85

= 14 (22/7) √85

= 44 √85

the lateral surface area of the frustum of the cone = 44 √85  cm²
