An object is resting at the bottom of two strings which are
inclined at an angle of 120° with each other. Each string
can withstand a tension of 20 N. The maximum weight of
the object that can be sustained without breaking the string
is :
(a) 10N
(b) 20N
(C) 20V2N
(b)40N

Answer:

The answer will be 20 N

Explanation:

According to the problem the object is placed at the string by making angle of 120 degree

Now it is given that the tension of the two  string is t1 and t2=  20 N

Now let consider the tension is having two components of tsin60 degree and tcos60 for both string

Therefore ,

t - mg = 0 [ as acceleration is null due to equilibrium]

therefore t = mg

Now t1cos60degree +t2cos60degree = mg

    as t1 and t2 are equal

therefore 2tcos60degree = w

  => 2 x 20 x 1/2 = w

w = 20 N
