The solid state of water is ice. The particles in ice are tightly bonded, with less space for the particles for move. Solids cannot be compressed, as the particles are packed together.
The liquid state of water is water itself. Liquids such as water have loosely held particles, looser than the ones in a solid, but more held together than the gaseous form. Liquids take up the form of the container.
The gaseous state of water is water vapour. The particles are very loosely held together, and they can move freely. A gas can be more easily compressed than both solids and liquids
