29. The significant landforms resulting from erosion by rivers include gorge, canyon, V-Shaped Valley, waterfall, pothole, structural bench, river terrace, river meander, ox-bow lake, peneplain, etc. Gorges are formed due to active down cutting of the valleys.

30. Winds which blow from high pressure belts to the low pressure belts in the same direction through out the year are called planetary winds, permanent winds or prevailing winds. Characteristics: The chief characteristics of planetary winds: a. They are connected with the pressure belts.

31. The water surface of the ocean is smooth, their bottom topography is very rough. The way mountains, hills, plateaus, plain etc. make the topography of the lithosphere rugged, in the same ridges, trenches, etc also turn way oceanic floor rough. The average depth of the ocean floor is 4000 meter.

32. The northern plain of India is formed by three river systems, i.e. the Indus, the Ganga and the Brahmaputra; along with their tributaries. These plains extend approximately 3200 km from west to east. The average width of these plains varies between 150 and 300 km.

33. A coastal plain is flat, low-lying land adjacent to a sea coast. The Coastal Plains of India lie on either side of the Peninsular Plateau, along the western and eastern coasts of India. They extend for about 6,150 km from the Rann of Kutch in the west to West Bengal in the east.
