Given info : Two capacitor plates each of effective area 6 cm² are separated by 1.3 mm. the space between the plates is filled with air.

To find : the capacitance of capacitor and also the charge on the capacitor if a voltage of 12v is applied across it.

solution : we know, C = ε₀A/d

here area of plate, A = 6 cm² = 6 × 10¯⁴ m²

separation between plates, d = 1.3 mm = 1.3 × 10¯³ m

now, C = (8.54 × 10¯¹² C²/Nm² × 6 × 10¯⁴ m²)/(1.3 × 10¯³ m)

= 39.41538 × 10¯¹³ Farad

≈ 4 × 10¯¹² Farad.

we know, q = CV

so, q = 4 × 10¯¹² × 12 = 48 × 10¯¹² Coulombs = 48pC

Therefore the charge on the capacitor is 48pC.
