Answer:

Let A take “X” hours to fill the tank

So “B” takes (X+6) hours to fill the tank .

In 1- day both A and B can fill =1/X+1/(X+6)= 1/4 hours.

On simplication we get,

=4(X+6) + 4X= X(X+6)

=4X+24+4X= X^2+ 6X

=X^2 - 2X-24=0

=(X-6) (X+4)= 0

So X= 6 or -4

Neglecting the negative value “X”= 6

So pipe -A can fill the cistern in 6- hours.
