Given:

+2C charge and +6C charges are repelling each other with a force of 24N. If each charge is given -1C of charge.

To find:

Value of force ?

Calculation:

In the 1st case:

 \therefore \: F_{1} =  \dfrac{k(2)(6)}{ {d}^{2} }  = 24 \: N

 \implies \:  \dfrac{k \times 12}{ {d}^{2} }  = 24

 \implies \:  \dfrac{k}{ {d}^{2} }  = 2 \: \:  \:  \:  \: .....(1)

In the 2nd case :

  • 1st charge becomes 2 - 1 = 1 C
  • 2nd charge becomes 6 - 1 = 5 C

 \therefore \: F_{2} =  \dfrac{k(1)(5)}{ {d}^{2} }

 \implies\: F_{2} =  \dfrac{k \times 5}{ {d}^{2} }

 \implies\: F_{2} =  \dfrac{k }{ {d}^{2} }  \times 5

 \implies\: F_{2} =  2 \times 5

 \implies\: F_{2} =  10 \: N

Since both charges are positive , hence force will be repulsive.

So, net force will be 10 N (repulsive).
