FeCl3 acts as an oxidising agent. 2FeCl3 + H2S → 2FeCl2 + 2HCl + S, In above reaction the FeCl3 get reduced because it oxidation Number is getting reduced. In FeCl3 the oxidation number is 3 but in 2FeCl2 the oxidation number is 2 hence, the oxidation number is getting reduced.
